Reverend
Leonard Akers
My family
and I are very excited that God has sent us to serve at Hollydale UMC!
I look forward to meeting all the current (and future) members of this
church which has been faithfully serving its surrounding community for
over 30 years.
I have
lived in or around the Atlanta area for close to 35 years. While I
was born in Worcester, MA 39 years ago, Atlanta is my home. The past
11 years our family has called Marietta home. Emily and I have been
married for nearly 14 years and we are blessed to have two children:
Lindsay who is 9 going on 13 and Benjamin who is 6 and non-stop.
Hollydale
UMC is my first appointment into ministry. You see I spent the
previous 17 years in the wholesale plumbing distribution industry; the
last 14 years with a fine organization, Ferguson Enterprises. I
received God’s call into ministry in May of 2005 on a mission trip to
Brazil in a very dramatic fashion. I know that sometimes God nudges
us and sometimes (for those of us who are not that bright…) God has to
really make sure we get the message!!
I think
it is important to note that I did not have a personal relationship
with Christ until my early 30s. Sure I claimed to be a Christian
prior to this, but I really did not understand what it meant to be a
follower of Christ. Having a personal relationship with Christ has
changed my life. It has helped me understand how much God loves me
and helped me to find the path God has in store for me in serving as a
pastor. Everyday I come to understand more and more how my gifts are
to be used in serving God’s kingdom on earth, not just for my own
personal gain.
I am
honored to begin this new chapter in my life, living into God’s plan
for my life, at Hollydale UMC. Please let me know how I can help you
find and strengthen your path for God’s plan in your life.
